TruTube Kids — Terms of Use
A guardian opens the account and decides what a child may watch. TruTube Kids carries out those decisions. Videos are YouTube's, played in YouTube's player under YouTube's terms. We don't promise that any video is right for your child — that judgement is yours, and the app exists to make it stick.
1. Who these terms are between
These terms are between you, the guardian who creates the account, and TruTube Limited, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17492227), 128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX ("TruTube", "we"). They cover the child app at trutube.kids. Contact: privacy@trutube.kids.
By creating an account, or by letting a child use one, you accept these terms. If you don't accept them, don't use the service.
2. What TruTube Kids is
TruTube Kids is a viewing space for children. A guardian builds a list of approved videos and creators for each child; the child watches from that list. Links that would take the child out of that list are held at the app and resolved against the guardian's decisions. Videos the guardian hasn't approved are not blocked outright: they can play once, in a labelled panel, after a warning that they are outside TruTube's protection, and the guardian can decline them for good.
We do not use automated algorithms to serve content to your child with the view to encouraging their retention on the platform. Any content served to your child, the order in which it is served and the duration it is served for is decided by you — through the list you build, the limits you set, and the options you agree to before anything is delivered.
The service is provided as it is at any given time. We add, change and remove features, and we tell guardians about changes that matter.
3. Guardians
- You must be an adult responsible for every child whose profile you create.
- You are responsible for keeping your sign-in and your guardian PIN to yourself. Anyone who has them can change what a child may reach.
- You are responsible for the decisions you make in the app: what you approve, what you exclude, what you allow once. We carry those decisions out; we don't make them for you.
- You may connect your own YouTube account to bring your playlists in. You must have the right to use that account, and you can disconnect it at any time.
4. Children
A child uses the app through a profile you create. Children don't agree to these terms; you agree on their behalf. A child doesn't sign in: you sign in to the device, and the child picks their profile icon. Don't give a child your own sign-in or your guardian PIN.
5. Videos, YouTube and Google
Every video in TruTube Kids is a YouTube video, played in YouTube's embedded player. By using the service you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's handling of data in the player is described in Google's privacy policy. We don't store video or audio; we store what you have decided about it.
We don't control what is on YouTube. A video can change, be removed, or be re-labelled by its creator or by YouTube after you approve it. Our information about a video — its title, description and the like — comes from YouTube and is refreshed on a rolling cycle, so it can lag behind what YouTube shows.
Where we show a video's own "made for kids" status, that status is YouTube's, set by the creator, and we don't change it. Our curation is a separate judgement and doesn't claim to be YouTube's.
6. What you may not do
- Use the service for anyone who isn't a child in your care.
- Try to get around the app's controls, or help a child do so.
- Use the service to download, copy or redistribute videos, or to reach YouTube in any way other than through the app's own player.
- Interfere with the service, probe it for weaknesses, or load it in a way that harms other users.
- Use it in breach of YouTube's or Google's terms.
7. Your content and ours
The lists, names and settings you create are yours; you give us permission to store and use them to run the service for you. The app itself — its design, code and name — is ours. Videos belong to their creators and to YouTube, under YouTube's terms.
8. Paying for it
TruTube Kids is free to use. A paid option is offered for the enhanced services we provide, which is what covers their cost. Prices are as advertised at trutube.kids/pricing and may change from time to time. We give existing subscribers at least 30 days' notice before any price change that affects their subscription. You can cancel your subscription at any time.
9. Ending it
You can delete your account at any time; what happens to your data is set out in the privacy policy. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or if we withdraw the service, with notice where we reasonably can give it.
10. What we are, and aren't, responsible for
We provide the app with reasonable care and skill, and nothing in these terms limits what we owe you under consumer law. Beyond that: we don't promise that any video is suitable for your child, that YouTube will keep a video available or unchanged, or that the service will be uninterrupted. We're not liable for losses that come from a decision you made in the app, from content on YouTube, or from something outside our reasonable control.
We provide you with the tools to make your child's viewing safe. We use AI to perform analysis to help achieve these aims. AI can make mistakes. You are responsible for checking the outcome of the analysis via the analysis result surfaces, and for using the additional tools we provide to override the results, block, or exclude entire videos or segments. Beyond what the law does not allow us to exclude, TruTube accepts no liability for your use of the platform.
11. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we tell guardians by email before the change takes effect. Each version carries its own date. Using the service after that date means you accept the new version.
12. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to its courts — without taking away rights you have as a consumer where you live.
